About the Role:


SVP, Digital Marketing


The SVP, Digital Marketing is a critical role with significant responsibilities and visibility at the executive level of the company. This role will own US customer acquisition efforts through digital and social marketing channels, as well as oversee organic social efforts and lead platforms partnerships. This leader must have a deep understanding of the digital/social ecosystem and experience in acquiring customers for a subscription-based businesses. Prior P&L or biz dev responsibility is a plus. 


The role is responsible for setting strategy to drive performance-marketing results in all digital channels, including:


  • Social
  • Influencer
  • Q&A sites (Quora, Reddit)
  • Email acquisition
  • Messaging apps & push notification
  • Display, including retargeting, programmatic
  • Affiliates
  • Content marketing
  • ASO
  • Digital video (non-OTT)

As the direct manager of the digital/social team, you will set the direction and support the channel managers in reaching their goals. You will lead, but also be hands-on in the visualization and execution of a variety of acquisition programs, both “always-on” and campaign-driven. You will drive a quality audience to visit and engage with Babbel’s digital platforms with a goal of hitting volume, transactional, revenue, and profitability targets.


You will oversee digital creative development, working within our brand and messaging guidelines. You will also oversee the organic social team, ensuring that their efforts are authentic in each medium but also harmonize with paid social.


You will leverage the resources of third-party partners (agencies, publishers, analytics providers and other professional services), as well as internal teams to accomplish our goals. Your thought-leadership will be needed in guiding our Martech development, including tools, attribution models, personalization, and more, in collaboration with the senior product manager and US CEO. You will surface new digital and technology opportunities to enhance our marketing efforts. You will work in close collaboration with our SVP of Marketing & Customer Journey, including to provide input to the customer journey and landing-page optimization for digital. You will also develop a strong partnership with the SEO and Babbel Magazine team who create award-winning content that drives massive lead growth. You will oversee digital business development, forging partnerships with platforms. You will lead, coach, and mentor a top-notch digital marketing team of five with the potential to grow.


You will you be responsible for budgeting and forecasting in digital channels, working in partnership with the business analyst and the SVP.


While your specific remit is for the US market, you will know you are succeeding if the best practices you develop here spread quickly to our headquarters in Berlin.


Babbel is at an inflection point in its growth in the US and in this role you will help accelerate our efforts across the digital landscape. Digital acquisition will be a focal point of our marketing strategy going forward.


Key Job Requirements Are:


  • 10+ years experience driving profitable customer growth through digital and social marketing; 5+ years management experience
  • Direct-to-consumer, performance marketing experience
  • Experience in B2C tech company required, experience in a subscription-based services company is ideal, start-up experience preferable
  • Expertise in marketing funnels and sophisticated data analysis skills
  • Multilingualism is a plus; strong interest in language is a requirement
  • MBA optional
  • P&L experience is  a plus
