As the largest social network for language learning in the world we’ve already had some great success, but there is so much more that we want to build and improve on. To achieve that, we need to be able to add great people to our team through a great recruitment process and building strong relationships with candidates.


Why is a Technical Recruiter important at busuu?


busuu is a technology company, but we can't deliver without the engineers who build our products. As a Technical Recruiter, you'll be instrumental in building our Technical team, working closely with our engineers and leadership team to understand needs, attract the right candidates, and build a process to ensure we hire the right people, in the right teams, as effectively as possible.


As the initial contact for candidates, you'll be a prominent member of our technical team and usually the first point of contact for candidates. So you'll play a critical role in the impression candidates have of busuu, and will be pivotal in helping us to find the right people and pushing the diversity of our team. 


What does a Technical Recruiter get to do?


You'll be responsible for implementing our technical hiring strategy, primarily sourcing and screening candidates, working with hiring teams to identify needs, and managing a clear and accountable process from initial contact through to offer and onboarding.


You'll also have responsibility for drafting job specifications, posting roles and managing relationships with external agencies/firms as relevant. You'll be involved in every stage of our hiring process, ensuring that regardless of the outcome candidates come away with a great impression of busuu and our team through open communication and great candidate experience.


As well as primarily working within the technical team, you'll also provide support to other hiring managers throughout the business, helping them streamline their processes, providing guidance and support to help the whole business be as effective as possible in hiring.


Ultimately, you'll ensure a fantastic candidate experience demonstrating our vibrant sprit throughout the process.


  • Identify, target and hire top technical talent.
  • Develop an understanding of open positions and technical skill-sets required, meeting regularly with hiring managers.
  • Understand the technical work of all teams, using this knowledge to define to define hiring and screening criteria.
  • Create job specifications for a variety of technical roles.
  • Represent busuu throughout the technical community, participating in events and helping to secure and run technical events hosted in our offices.
  • Follow industry trends, ensuring we are set up to hire based on them in the short, medium and long term
  • Source active and passive candidates through all viable channels (e.g. employee referrals, networking, internal databases, internet searches, agencies and executive search firms).
  • Screen candidates for fit and then recommend on suitability against defined criteria.
  • Manage all employment-related correspondence (e.g., reference checks, offer letters/contracts, orientation materials and onboarding paperwork).
  • Maintain applicant tracking systems and deliver regular recruiting reports.
  • Ensure a great experience for every candidate: from application stage to offer, as well as provide a superior onboarding experience for each new hire.

What we're looking for from a Technical Recruiter at busuu


You'll be working with technical roles, so a clear understanding of engineering principles, practices and frameworks will be required to assess candidates against our technical requirements. We're looking for a recruiter that really gets what we're working on technically, working closely with the teams to understand what we should be looking for and diving deep with candidates, going beyond just ticking a box for a skill. We're interested in not just finding the right technical skills, but finding the right people that will add new and diverse voices to our team.


At busuu things move fast. If you're competitive, want to work with smart, creative and energetic people and possess the initiative, confidence and good judgment to make independent decisions every day - then you're probably the perfect addition to our growing team. 


  • Experience working as an in-house technical recruiter.
  • Strong technical understanding. We don't expect you to be able to code, but we do expect that you can understand what we're working on and be able to assess the skill of a technical candidate when compared to our environment.
  • Strong understanding of growth company sector, with strong relationships within the start-up community in London.
  • Understanding of recruiting tools, including LinkedIn, Greenhouse, Jobvite or similar.
  • Ability to engage passive candidates on the phone to network and generate referrals and additional leads.
  • Track record in creative sourcing of candidates, to secure highly sought after candidates for competitive roles and to identify those ‘needles in the haystack’.
  • Flexible, with ability to work on multiple roles at the same time.
  • Extroverted and skillful at interviewing people and getting a good sense of them.
  • Strong communicator and capable of treating all candidates with dignity and respect.
  • A sense of humor, with a passion for start-ups and growth companies.
  • Start-up experience.
  • Knowledge of the busuu language.
