Description

Empatica

We're an affective computing company focused on human data analytics, with offices in Downtown Boston, MA, and Milan, Italy.

Our mission is to provide intelligent technology that is friendly, caring and more human.

We design and develop medical-quality wearable devices aimed to improve people's emotional well-being and save lives. Embrace2, our hero product, is the only wrist-worn seizure monitor cleared by the FDA, designed to help prevent SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy).

We believe in a work environment that fosters autonomy, mastery and purpose. We are a team of passionate people from all over the world bringing high levels of creativity to our everyday work.

Watch the recent TEDx talk delivered by our Co-Founder and Chief Scientist, Rosalind Picard, to learn more about the history of Empatica and what drives our commitment to great work:

The new team player

As a Cloud Engineer, you will work alongside all the engineering teams at Empatica to make sure our products and infrastructure are robust, fault-tolerant and monitored at all times. When you're around, other engineers will know they don't have to worry because you are optimizing their work behind the scenes.

We build medical devices that save lives. As you can imagine, this is a one-of-a-kind job that requires skill, responsibility, the capability to deliver, and attention to detail (when people's lives are involved, sloppiness cannot be part of the equation). Being a Cloud Engineer at Empatica means working hard to deliver quality both to our customers and to your colleagues. Your work will make people happy, and ultimately save lives.

Your contribution to the mission

Building and maintaining a scalable data analysis infrastructure for our data science team to digest different physiological signals in real time.

Designing, building, testing, and scaling our API infrastructure.

Improving and simplifying development and deployment processes across embedded, mobile, back-end, front-end and data analysis engineering teams.

Managing build/deployment pipelines for continuous integration and continuous delivery to improve the quality and availability of products.

Setting up backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery plans.

Maintaining products once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.

Improving and maintaining our monitoring and alerting systems.

Overseeing security practices applied to our infrastructure and helping run audits on it, in a HIPAA and FDA-compliant environment.

We rely on Amazon Web Services for our infrastructure. You can expect to get your hands on:

EKS

Lambda / Serverless

RDS / Aurora / DynamoDB / Redis / DocumentDB

S3 / Cloudfront

SQS / SNS

Our infrastructure (and not only that) is managed through Terraform, and we use Amazon CodeBuild for our build pipeline.
