The Data Engineering Team

The data engineering team is absolutely crucial to Funding Circle! We are building our global data platform which is the backbone of our business. This platform will allow us to continue our fast growth internationally and means that our Data Science and Customer Analytics teams can run machine learning models that optimize the service to our customers.We also build out our data pipelines allowing the business to access valuable data instantly 

As a Senior Data Engineer you will…

• Participate in the architecture and development of the global data platform.
• Design and build scalable, reliable data pipelines using technologies like Kafka, Spark and Athena.
• Evolve Funding Circles data models to support our business’ demanding self-service needs.
• Adhere to an agile way of working and be an advocate of testing, continuous integration, and data quality monitoring.
• Work cross-functionally with other teams such as risk, analytics, product and more to develop data driven products and tools.

• Experience in software development, and writing good, clean code preferably with Python, Clojure, Scala or some other functional programming language.
• Experience in SQL
• Experience in software engineering and solving problems in the data engineering space.
• Ability to work in a cloud environment like AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Exposure to working with large-scale data repositories like data lakes or dimensional data warehouses.
• Passion for creating the best possible code.
• Capable of working independently toward shared team goals.
• Positive, “roll-up your sleeves” attitude.
• Strong intellectual curiosity.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Able to confidently present ideas to peers, management, and customers in both verbal and written form.
• Bonus points for having skills dealing with streaming data using tools like Kafka or Spark Streaming.
• Major bonus points if you have experience with big data solutions like Spark, Presto/Athena, Redshift and EMR.
