BackgroundFunding Circle’s Head of Communications in the US is a senior member of the global communications team, reporting directly to the Director of Group Communications in London. You will be fully accountable for communications activities across the US and act as a senior leader within our US business.

He/She is pivotal in positioning Funding Circle as a leader with vision in one of our most exciting markets, developing communications strategies to build and protect Funding Circle’s reputation across our core audiences: media, government, regulators, partner and customers (investors and borrowers), and internal employees.

As the US Head of Communications you will…

  • Develop, implement and drive a critical communications plan for the US market
  • Supply to the creation and evolution of the global communication strategy and provide local market leadership aligned to the global strategy.
  • Set messaging for core audiences that increases transparency and advances our position as the leading small business lending platform in the market
  • Lead a small team (agency and in-house) to ensure delivery of day-to-day media relations including: press office, planning, executive thought leadership support, events, and tactical launches
  • Support wider US team with dedicated Government and Regulatory affairs activity, including influencing policy makers at a Federal and State level
  • Responsible for ensuring all Funding Circle US spokespeople are communicating in a consistent way, including running training sessions for speakers and providing speaker notes
  • Oversee US budget for communications activities; accountable for ensuring monthly spend is on target
  • Work closely with Director of Group Communications and global comms team to identify areas of global standard methodology and deliver against these plans
  • Actively participate in the group’s global communication plans, supporting wider strategic objectives and aims

You’ve been there and done this…

  • The person will have 10-15 years’ corporate communications experience either in-house or agency work, ideally in a global matrix structure and a fast-growing, fast-paced environment
  • Expertise in developing proactive and reactive corporate communications campaigns that educate and influence journalists, customers, consumers, and policymakers
  • Experience working with Tier 1 business, technology and financial media and understanding of their requirements
  • Ability to work with senior partners across the business to identify creative and distinctive story ideas and place them in key media outlets
  • Clear ability to translate often complex financial materials into meaningful narratives
  • Proven issues management and crisis communications experience
  • Experience of leading a team and evidence of results
  • Excellent written, spoken, and presentation skills (English)
  • An understanding of the financial services landscape and experience of working in the sector is ideal
