Given the profile of this role, we are looking for someone to become a trusted resource to – and leader of -- our business, with a focus on driving positive change and legal risk management through a lens of desired business outcomes.Day to day responsibilities:

You will lead Funding Circle’s US legal team which advise on all legal and regulatory issues relating to our business.  Topics of fundamental business relevance include how we structure our business and our relationships with our customers, as well as executing regulatory projects and iterating our product offering.  

You will be responsible for:

• Developing smart and effective legal solutions to business and regulatory problems.
• Working across all functions of our business to provide strategic support for their continued success within risk appetite.
• Analyzing the impact of legislative and regulatory change on our business, communicating this analysis and potential paths forward, and executing change.
• Building and maintaining a strong internal network to ensure we manage legal risk effectively.
• Managing our team of smart and versatile lawyers and supporting achievement of their professional goals.
• Managing external counsel and the legal budget.
• Managing disputes and litigation, and providing support to our Collections & Recoveries function.
• Supporting our Regulatory Affairs Director in the achievement of our external affairs objectives.
• Working with colleagues in our global offices to help influence and develop global legal strategy and priorities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A law degree from a recognized law school, and good quality and substantial experience in private practice and in-house (bonus points if it pertains to financial services, litigation or technology).
• Experience as a people manager (bonus points if you have run a legal team).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to advise expertly and succinctly.
• Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
• A ‘can do’ attitude demonstrated by a track record of getting things done.
• A strong desire to develop excellent working relationships.
• Comfort working in a diverse team environment as well as independently, and be able to prioritize commitments and a dynamic workload individually and for the team.
