Staff Data Scientist - Data Product (Recommendations and Relevance)

GetYourGuide is the place to book the best experiences in destinations across the globe. As Staff Data Scientist you'll join our growing Data Product team and have a chance to make a large impact. You’ll define and lead complex projects across teams, create leverage and proactively improve how the group and Data Scientists work. As part of our Data Science leadership team, you’ll be involved in overarching strategic topics while focusing on reinforcing our Data Science Principles across the Data Product teams - ensuring consistency and clarity, across the teams.

Team Mission 

The Recommendations and Relevance team helps our customers to discover GetYourGuide’s inventory by understanding their needs in a data-driven way. The team owns the ranking logic of the search results and the different recommendation algorithms. Their goal is to show the most relevant products whereby relevancy depends on numerous interacting dimensions: the individual customer’s interests and requirements, the location, the current state of the customer’s decision process, the season, and many, many more. This results in numerous challenges in both the technical architecture and the applied algorithms. Data Scientists and Backend Engineers work closely together to ensure that the whole development process of their data products runs smoothly.

Responsibilities 

You will...

• own your projects end-to-end by working on the approach, building algorithms, data pipelines and defining metrics to measure success
• drive product implementation by pushing the envelope on the product roadmap and showcase what can be done, with focus on personalizing recommendation and ranking 
• create impact by setting up the foundations of Data Science at GetYourGuide and raise the bar in implementing and rolling out our Data Science principles 
• function as consultant and mentor on other products within the data science group 

Requirements  

You have

• a track record of owning and solving end-to-end data product challenges for tech a companies
• strong methodological knowledge in machine learning and statistics and have experience in working on large datasets
• a background in strategically influencing and driving product roadmaps with your expertise and insights
• have strong understanding of modern programming languages, such as Scala or Python (working knowledge on computing framework, such as Spark is a plus
• a background in guiding other Data Scientists through mentorship and establishing tools and processes
• applied the skills mentioned above in a business environment for 5+ years. A track record of result-driven work gives evidence of this.
