About the Role
Houzz International is looking for a new or recently qualified Management Accountant to join the London office and support our fast growing International operations. You’ll be joining a rapidly expanding team on a mission to grow Houzz internationally.
 
In this role you will have a focus on Houzz International’s payroll and commissions payment process. You will take the lead in the execution of our monthly payroll process across International which impacts hundreds of employees each month. Our employees are spread across multiple locations including the UK, Germany, Japan and Australia. You will own the relationship with our payroll provider and we will look to you to become an expert in all things payroll and benefits perspective for Houzz International.
 
Once payroll is complete for the month, you’ll work with our International teams around the world to ensure expenses, invoicing, financial accounting and reconciliation are carried out accurately and on time. You will be required to frequently liaise with, and manage, our third party accountancy provider as well as communicating with our Finance team in Palo Alto, USA. You will also be closely involved in the design and implementation of processes in each of these areas as our business develops.

What You’ll Do:
  • Assist with the end to end payroll cycle, from data collection, new joiner setup, variable pay component management, submission, data audit, and reporting through our external payroll system.
  • Develop tools and formulas using Excel in order to automate and streamline our internal payroll processes.
  • Timely and accurate processing of payroll including sales commissions, bonuses, and other ad hoc payments across four locations, and likely more in the future.
  • Support administration of employee benefits such as monthly pension payment reports and audit of benefit deductions.
  • Prepare monthly payroll authorisation packs for sign off, including building custom reporting, running and ensuring accuracy of payroll reports.
  • Oversee monthly commission calculations and set new processes to ensure checks and balances include the entire sales team population
  • Improve existing commissions checks and controls to ensure payments are adequate
  • Assist with accounting in other areas, such as fixed assets, prepayments and accounts payable
  • Have good working knowledge of VAT and corporate tax legislation
  • Assist with other accounting duties as we go through an ERP transition
  • Support the wider Finance and HR team in various projects and initiatives as well as with other payroll and finance duties as needed in managing the international operations of Houzz
  • At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have:
  • ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified (or equivalent) or qualified by experience as well as 0 - 2 years PQE 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably finance related
  • Track record of industry experience combined with a strong track record of performance in previous roles
  • Strong Excel skills, with previous use of Netsuite being an advantage
  • Willing to take on duties outside of your direct remit – our startup culture and the nature of the team you will be working with demands a positive and proactive approach in this area
  • Strong stakeholder focus with a commitment towards delivering results.  Acts quickly in response to customer problems, takes ownership and sees them through to satisfactory conclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive information in a secure and appropriate manner
  • Able to work to deadlines and multitask, and be tenacious enough to see tasks through to completion
  • Phenomenal attention to details, be conscientious and thorough with good problem solving ability
