Data Governance Manager (m/f) | Hamburg

Description

This is a key role in the organization with regular visibility to senior management and the opportunity to materially impact the business output. As such, there is a wide area of responsibilities that can be grouped in one of the following sub-roles:

A day in this job:

• Data Governance Subject Matter Expert
• Define the agenda and organize the data governance committee meetings;
• Roll out an enterprise wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality through modifications to organization behavior, policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes to maximize the value of data assets, related tools and data architecture;
• Project Manager
• Author and maintain a data dictionary and a business glossary;
• Define, propose, plan and manage cross-functional projects related to data privacy, security and compliance;
• Manage the development and deployment of a semi or fully automated data inventory;
• Provide requirements and guidelines to development teams for important data processing components like the identification and the anonymization components;
• Develop a thorough understanding of data acquisition, storing and processing systems and organize that information into a data-flow diagram;
• Make recommendations for third-party solution purchases by identifying both the budgetary and technological impact;
• Data Quality Advocate
• Engage with business stakeholders to quantify and articulate the business impact of data quality issues;
• Develop data quality standards and implement monitoring processes to ensure that data meets optimum data quality standards in terms of accuracy, validity, reliability, timeliness, relevance and completeness;
• Develop remediation plans in partnership with data management colleagues, monitor and track data quality issues, identify and close gaps in collaboration with business and IT groups.

Desired skills & experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business informatics or related fields. Alternatively, a combination of bachelor’s degree in Engineering or IT and master’s degree in business;
• 3+ years of experience as a project manager, a product owner or a technology/data consultant;

• Strong written and verbal communication skills required, with ability to interact with all levels of the organization. Must be able to act as a liaison between technical and business teams;
• Ability to drive strategic improvements across the organization. Strong project management skills;

• Familiarity with the trends and opportunities in the data governance, big data and advanced analytics space.
