Debtwire is looking for a candidate who is passionate about carving out a career in financial journalism at a time when Asian markets are seeing an unprecedented change. Debtwire is looking for a driven financial reporter and a fast learner to join its Asia loans team to cover both the primary and secondary Asian loan market. To succeed in this role, the candidate will need to get ahead of loan mandates, gather color from a wide range of sources and follow up on how loans trade in secondary markets, as well as be able to spot issues that may have an impact on a borrower’s ability to meet its loan obligations.

You will be speaking to bankers, leveraged finance participants, private-equity companies, institutional investors, advisors, lawyer and companies. The daily job will be getting terms of the loan before they become public, breaking scoops on early-stage deals, new financings, fundraisings backing acquisitions and loan transactions in the secondary market.

The private nature of the industry means uncovering information from well-placed sources is the first challenge, A candidate with an analytical mind and a liking for financial markets will have an edge as this is a technical market and you will eventually become a market commentator.

A major part of the job will involve building relationships with the sources and require your initiative to build deeper relationships with the contacts while expanding it at the same time.

You will be part of a small and collaborative team that will cover the entire Asia Pacific region, excluding Japan. Fluency in regional languages including Mandarin, Bahasa and Cantonese will be a bonus.

The job will also involve traveling to meet with sources and attend industry conferences.

Candidates with existing experience in financial journalism and with good contact network will be preferred and compensated adequately. We are open to fresh candidates without journalism experience too but those need to demonstrate a strong desire to succeed. Debtwire is committed to training our staff to fulfill their potential.

Skills & Requirements:

Produce accurate, properly written and timely-soured loan stories

Produce copy under tight deadlines.

Proven desire to be a financial journalist or,

a strong desire to pursue business journalism
