Founded by three entrepreneurs from Oxford University, Onfido has received over $60m in funding from investors including Salesforce and Microsoft. As a team of 180 with offices in 5 countries, Onfido works with global customers including BBVA, Square and LendingKart.

Onfido’s technology validates a user’s identity document and compares it with their facial biometrics. As a global innovator in the Computer Vision space, Onfido’s AI learns to identity fraud as it evolves over time, enabling Onfido’s clients to rapidly onboard more users while protecting themselves against fraudulent activity. THE ROLE

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to help guide the company through the next phase of growth. You'll join an Executive Team that couples trust and collaboration with fierce debate and courageous decision-making.

The world’s greatest internet companies are shaped by the capabilities and performance of its engineers and developers and Onfido has reached the stage where they need to dramatically scale up their engineering function - no small undertaking. The CTO will help attract, motivate, manage and inspire the world’s best engineers, researchers and data specialists. Onfido’s technology team is already regarded as one of Europe’s best. This role will be tasked with raising the bar and the profile to ensure the team is recognised as one of the best in the world.

This role will oversee our 70-strong Engineering, Research and Security functions. We expect the CTO to take on challenges including hiring Europe’s best technical talent, planning our technical strategy and productionising of our pioneering research work.

As such the four key challenges of this role could be summarised as follows:

• Scale – scaling the technology function of the business to deliver the growth expected. This will involve an increase in size and quality of the technology function.

• Scope – Onfido is working on some of the world’s most challenging and complex technical challenges including developing and industrializing computer vision techniques, building tools to combine machine intelligence with expert human insight at high scale.

• World class engineering – Onfido wants to continue to be known for its world-class engineering function, which attracts and develops the very best talent globally. The CTO will be the face of this brand.

• Innovation and Leadership – this new hire should augment the current leadership team with best in class growth and scaling leadership expertise

Technology Context

This role has responsibility for all aspects of engineering and technology with a team expert across a wide range of Engineering activities including core Software Development, Machine Learning, Data Engineering and Architecture, DevOps, Business Intelligence Delivery and Infrastructure, Security as well as Testing and Technical Support Engineering.

Requirements

• Experience managing engineering teams of 100+ people
• Experience in fast-growth B2B environments
• Experience in complex technical environments involving management of Data Science and/or Research output
• Public speaking experience
• Evidence of attracting world-class technical talent by building a globally recognised engineering brand
• Evidence of building high performance teams through recruitment and performance management

Nice to haves

• Experience in applying for and securing patents and government technology grants
• Experience in leading work to define product roadmaps
• Experience in the implementation of novel cybersecurity techniques
