A bit about the job


As we are taking the revolution global, we are growing rapidly around the world and need to make sure that we have the best banks and setup to support that growth in every region. You will help to define the future of TransferWise in Latin America.


Our partners in each region determine the quality of our product and a large part of the economics. So you will work with the product teams to make sure that we can give the best possible customer experience by getting the right deal with the right partner, as well as looking after our existing relationships and moving them forward to next levels. Relationships with regulators are crucial too; in a complex regulatory landscape you will work with regulators to enable the best outcomes for customers, ensuring TransferWise is compliant with current and future regulation.  


What will you be doing?


  • Opening new bank accounts and/or partnerships in Latin America.
  • The end-to-end process involves: pitching TransferWise as a client, negotiating commercials, completing account opening forms, explaining our compliance processes to pass the required due diligence, and anything else needed to have an account ready and open for technical teams to integrate with.
  • Overseeing relationships with financial institutions in Latin America to ensure we continuously improve our setup when opportunities arise.
  • Working out the optimal regulatory set-ups for priority sending markets in the region. This requires considering whether we should obtain our own licence and if so, leading that process. Alternatively, you might decide to deliver an alternative structure, such as a partnership with another licensed institution.
  • Help the product team prioritise potential product changes across Latin America that would have the biggest impact for our customers.
  • Support the compliance team in managing the relationship with regulators and other important non-commercial relationships, such as with government departments.
  • Together with the compliance team, understand existing and new regulations, figuring out the best way in which our product and setup are compliant with them. We see regulation as an opportunity, and we want you to help us achieving that vision!

A bit about you


  • An analytical thinker. You have the ability to figure out the ideal operational and commercial process with every new partner; and are keen to find the optimal set-up in new countries.
  • Excellent at managing banking relationships, constantly creating opportunities to improve them.
  • Able to get stuff done. Not afraid to get hands dirty to deliver what is needed - we’re still a start-up and you will need an entrepreneurial mindset to thrive.
  • Familiar with how big corporates like banks work and the different decision makers that need to be taken into account to make things happen.
  • Understand regulation in a changing regulatory environment and have an interest in AML/KYC and risk controls
  • Happy to work independently and flexibly within a fast-moving environment.
  • You are business fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • Passionate about transforming the financial industry for good.

It would be ideal, but not essential if you:


  • Have experience of building business relationships with financial institutions, and dealing with risk/compliance teams within banks (particularly Latin American institutions).
  • Understand financial regulation in the regions, or maybe have even worked directly with regulators.
  • Understand how local and international payments work (specific knowledge of Latin American payment systems would a plus).
