What's the role?


We’re on the lookout for an experienced reward specialist who’s looking to take the next step in their career. This is a global role, with oversight and responsibility for all of our benefits and compensation practices in all 11 countries that we operate in but based in our Shoreditch, London office.


You’ll be part of the People Operations team, reporting into the global team lead. You’ll work in partnership with the local People Operations teams, as they support local team leads. You’ll also provide guidance and expertise to members of the leadership team as they conduct strategic reviews for their teams.


Your mission:


We’ve grown super quickly, and have done a great job of building new offices and setting up solid benefits packages in each. Now it’s time for the next stage in our evolution - we need to take a more global view of how we manage compensation and benefits and we have some big challenges ahead, including:


  • Salary: we need to bring greater clarity and consistency to our salary frameworks. You’ll work with team leads in each location to benchmark and agree salary bands for each level and role specialism
  • Stock Options: we offer stock options to every employee so that everyone benefits from our success. As we grow, we need to continue evolving our stock scheme(s) to make sure we stay competitive in each market
  • Benefits: as we’ve grown we’ve set up a core set of benefits in each location. Now it’s time to look for opportunities to harmonise key elements (by reviewing entitlements and sourcing global partners), to bring greater overall consistency for all TransferWise employees.

This is a brand new role for TransferWise, so the opportunities aren’t limited to the technical side of things:


  • Building your team: in time, you’ll need to hire a crack team of specialists to work with you. Together, you’ll provide the deep technical expertise that will help the rest of the People Operations team and our team leads to make wise decisions
  • Building expertise: we believe in hiring smart people and trusting them to make good decisions - and it’s no different when it comes to reward. This isn’t a role where you’ll get to make all the decisions - instead, to be successful you’ll share your experience and insight, so that every team lead is empowered to make the best decisions for their teams.

A bit about you:


We’re looking for someone with experience of owning all elements of reward (including our stock programme) in a high growth business. It’s fine if you haven’t done a role of this size before - what’s most important to us is that you have deep expertise in your field and can help us bring some clarity and greater structure to our current reward practices.


Stuff you’ve done before:


  • Worked in a high growth company - this’ll help you know how to deal with ambiguity and shifting priorities
  • Worked in a multinational company - we have employees in 11 countries (with offices in 7 of these) so you’ll need to have experience of designing solutions that take account of different legislative jurisdictions and cultural norms
  • Deep expertise - you’ll need to have a real depth of experience in either compensation or benefits (or both), and ideally with previous experience of managing / overseeing a stock option programme
  • Managed large scale projects - you’ll know how to scope a problem and craft a plan to deliver meaningful results across the business - and you won’t be afraid of rolling up your sleeves to get stuck into the delivery yourself.

  • Dealing with ambiguity - you’ll be comfortable working in environments that change quickly and where there is a lot of shared ownership for complex topics
  • Working in partnership - you’ll be working in partnership with leaders across the business (as well as the People Operations team in each office), so you’ll need to be collaborative in outlook and get your kicks from helping increase others’ expertise and ownership for compensation  
  • Creative problem solving - we’re not a ‘one size fits all’ kind of business and we’re not looking for off the shelf solutions; we need you to think creatively to help us find good solutions to problems that are anything but clear-cut.

  • Communicative - we’re an open business and when it comes to communication we believe there’s no such thing as too much! You’re skilled at shaping complex data into strong messages that empower others to make great decisions
  • Collaborative - you’re a team player who wants to share your knowledge and expertise with others. If you’re someone who prefers to work independently for long stretches, then this probably isn’t the right environment for you….
  • Analytical - we believe in making data-based decisions so you’ll need to have great skills when it comes to data collection, analysis and presentation
  • Precise - data accuracy is a must, so your attention to detail and precision must be beyond question.
