Changing the way the language learning is done is a great technical challenge, so we are looking for an Engineering Manager (full-time) to join our Berlin office.

Your roles as an Engineering Manager will be:

People Developer

• Hire and mentor engineers (4-6) for your team(s) - both personally as well as technically
• Build technical leaders in the teams (as individual contributors)
• Simplify: Drive and advise the team to develop simple solutions for complex problems

Delivery Lead

• Ensure your team delivers on quarterly initiatives and bi-weekly sprint goals
• Ensure your team fully understands strategies, goals and objectives as well as their individual contribution to this
• Bring discoveries/ideas from engineers back to relevant stakeholders
• Lead technical initiatives when needed
• Contribute yourself (depending on your span of direct reports 10-70%)

Technical Coach

• Drive technical roadmap and strategy for your team
• Drive technical architecture decisions & evolution
• Help your team improve on engineering practices
• Identify & share your knowledge in state of the art technologies

Community & Culture Builder

• Build a great engineering community & culture
• Share your success and learnings both internally as well as externally
• Lead by example in fostering a learning organisation

Strong Partner

• Be a strong partner for the PMs to advise, innovate and deliver on priorities and initiatives
• Partner with with cross-functional peers to build better context and help engineers becoming cross-functional collaborators
• Partner and exchange with your engineering manager colleagues to build a great engineering leadership team 

You have: 

• 5+ years of experience in building software systems
• 2+ years of experience leading a team 
• A Degree in computer science or related field
• Fluency in written & spoken English
• Good technology background including Ruby on Rails and Javascript ecosystems
• Solid grasp on agile software engineering practices
• Experience in building services for distributed systems and proven success in taking projects from idea to production
• Experience in formulating or coaching technical strategies and roadmaps
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, build and maintain highly motivated engineering teams
• Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
