We are looking for an Engineering Manager - Growth (all genders) to start in our office in Berlin, Germany!


Your mission will be to lead one of our Growth teams who focus on Web Paywalls, Onboarding and new user experience. This role is at the heart of Growth at Babbel, and focused on delivering a key driver of our monetization equation. 


You will


  • Be the engineering lead for a cross-functional team of 5 engineers. The team also includes a product manager, data analyst, product designer, and QA analysts.
  • This team is responsible for the top of our Web funnel, from how we get to know our new users, generate excitement about our product, and serve up world class paywalls. 
  • Make sure team members are engaged and complement each other in achieving common goals autonomously
  • Reinforce an MVP mindset, continuous improvements of team ways of working
  • Manage dependencies and expectations, building trust with all stakeholders (other engineering teams, marketing & revenue stakeholders, customer support, product marketing), and delivering on commitments.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other EMs to influence product strategy and drive the product development roadmap.
  • Support the tech leads on the team in working on the product architecture and with strategic tech decisions.
  • Attract, onboard, develop, and retain diverse top talents to your team.

You have


  • Experience leading and developing cross-functional teams within an international, agile environment
  • Proven experience in direct people management
  • User-centric prioritization and data-informed decision making
  • Ability to collaborate with many other functions, willingness to cooperate with the product and business stakeholders building together a trust working environment
  • A can-do attitude to build MVPs and iterate on them in short cycles
  • Comfortable giving and receiving actionable, constructive feedback.
  • Experience in creating and managing career development plans for engineers with diverse skill sets

Nice to have


  • Passion about growth, monetization, and fast learning cycles
  • Knowledge in component-based frontend frameworks, ideally React and Redux
  • Strong sense for good API design and third-party API integrations
  • Experience using Ruby, AWS, NoSQL databases
  • Proficient knowledge in JavaScript, HTML, CSS (incl. preprocessors and CSS in JS)
  • Deep exposure to Scrum and/or other agile methodologies
  • Strong understanding of Event-Driven Architecture
