Data EngineerAs a Junior Data Engineer, you will help marshal multiple data sources both internal and external into meaningful, actionable intelligence that helps empower business users and drive the business.

You will be part of the global Funding Circle Data team, so you'll have colleagues in Berlin, London and San Francisco, that are living at the cutting (and sometimes bleeding) edge with Python, Clojure, Athena, Mesos, Docker and more.

You will design, implement, test and maintain scalable data pipelines. You will work alongside your team to ensure quality, performance and reliability goals are met while contributing to our overall back-end infrastructure. You will learn a lot and grow quickly in this fast paced environment. We’re a tight-knit, highly visible part of the organization.

You will be:

• A builder: you will build and maintain scalable data warehousing solutions to help drive better decision making across the company.
• A collaborator: you’ll be expected to partner with other engineers locally 
  share ownership of their outcomes.
• A data evangelist: lead by example and ensure high quality, fast turnaround data-driven decision-making can be delivered throughout the company.
• A teacher: be generous with your time and expertise to teach stakeholders how to answer their own questions with the data tools you build.

You've been there and done this:

• Proven previous experience in a development and data engineering role preferably in tech, consulting, or finance.
• Understanding of the concepts behind data warehousing architecture and dimensional modeling.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and performance tuning (we use Postgres).
• Strong programming skills (Python, Java, Clojure, R, Scala; we love them all).
• Unix development skills including shell scripting and automation.
• Knowledge of messaging and streaming platforms (Kafka/RabbitMQ/JMS/etc.).
• A self-starter attitude with an enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, start-up environment.
• experience in financial or other strongly regulated industry where oversight and attention to detail is paramount.

It would be great if you've also...

• Familiarity with AWS and Apache stacks including Lambda, EC2, EMR, Athena etc.
• Experience in virtualized environments (Mesos, Marathon, Chronos, Docker, etc.).
• Front end Javascript skills.
• Work in Financial or other highly regulated environment.
• Skills working with structured, unstructured data sets and large data sets.
• Microservice architecture development experience.
• Interest in R, SAS, ML algorithm creation & model building.
• Engineering/CS or Finance degree.
