As we’re pursuing our mission to provide small businesses with the finance they need, the Tech & Analytics team are right at the heart of making that happen. Our software developers and data scientists are building systems to seamlessly collect and assemble data from a wide variety of external sources, using the data to accurately predict the loss rates of lending to small businesses, and automating key operational processes in order to increase efficiency and allow us to lend to even more small businesses. We’re right at the cutting edge of fintech development, and while we’re using technology and statistical methods to serve even more small businesses, we’re learning an awful lot along the way.

While the team is busy doing loads of interesting and exciting stuff, we want to make sure we’re capturing and sharing our technical knowledge, both among our growing team and beyond. So we’re looking for someone with a keen interest in tech who can work closely with our Tech & Analytics team (in particular, with James, our Co-Founder and CTO) to create tech papers, blog posts, presentations, webisodes, etc. We’ll share this stuff internally and externally to promote our brand and also to promote learning and development among our existing team.

It’s a new role at iwoca and there’ll be lots of variety day-to-day. It’s also a great opportunity for the right person to learn about our cutting-edge work in technology and data science. If you’re an aspiring scientific journalist, then this could be just the role for you!

Requirements

The Role

• Able to engage with experienced data scientists and developers to understand the work they do and the significance of it, and distill the complexity into key learnings and insights
• Understand and translate complex ideas into technical content which presents such ideas clearly and succinctly
• Write tech blogs and prepare presentations on tech and analytics, which can be published internally and externally
• Work very closely with our CTO as well as developers and data scientists within his team, to extract knowledge and synthesise it into engaging and content-rich blogs and presentations
• Develop and maintain a content plan for regularly releasing fresh content from the Tech & Analytics team
• Work closely with the Marketing Content team, so that appropriate content that is created by iwoca is properly leveraged across the tech world as well as more broadly

• Science/engineering degree; PhD level preferred
• Excellent technical writing skills and an expert in structured communication, particularly on complex scientific topics (e.g. you’ll likely have written your own technical research papers at University)
• Curiosity, you’ll need to be able to ask the questions to extract the content for creating these presentations
• Skilled in creating high-quality slide presentations which can be used to present engaging and content-rich talks
• Video editing skills are not essential, but are a big advantage
• Exceptionally high standards and a keen eye for detail
• Able to adhere to tight deadlines
• Able to work under pressure, and keen to get candid feedback (both on the things you do really well as well as what could be done better) in order to keep developing yourself
• Flexible, and you’ll thrive in a fast-changing environment
• Able to work quickly and be confident in meeting tight deadlines
