We started in 2012, when we noticed a problem: on average, it was taking eight weeks (and a lot of paperwork) for small businesses to apply for a loan. Worse still, more often than not, that process was ending in a ‘no’.

We knew that bakeries, building firms, salons, and solicitors deserved better. They deserve to be able to grow – hire more hands, invest in stock, market themselves – without all the hold music and absurdly rigid criteria.

We’ve now been around for a decade, and in that time, we’ve:

• grown to a team of 290 iwocans
• worked with over 50,000 small businesses across the UK and Germany
• redesigned the whole business loan process from start to finish – our record is three minutes, 26 seconds.

It’s a good start, but it’s just the beginning. Our mission is help one million businesses who need us, so we still have a long way to go.

From automated decisions to API integrations, tech has the potential to create the changes small businesses have been waiting for – so we can’t stop innovating.

• Embedded finance is the future

More and more, we’re reaching customers by embedding our loans within the apps and systems they use everyday. Our partners are people like neobanks, online marketplaces and accountancy software companies.

• Payments and credit are converging

Lots of small businesses struggle with cash flow; often getting invoices paid from their customers months after paying their own bills. Loans can help them pay these bills, but we also want to tackle the problem at its root by improving payment terms.

• New products are always possible

We’re working to create new loans of all shapes and sizes, and we’ve recently launched iwocaPay to help with these cash flow conundrums.

The role

We are currently hiring for a (Senior) Data Analyst to join our Transaction Management team (TM team) which is part of the wider Capital Markets Team, based in our London office.

Responsibilities:

• The TM team is responsible for ongoing operational aspects of our predominantly asset-backed financing facilities. Main tasks include periodical portfolio monitoring, cashflow monitoring and waterfall reporting - which will also involve direct interaction with our institutional investors
• The preparation of reports for investors and regulators is at the core of what we do, and we are continuously looking for ways to make these processes more efficient

• You will learn to manage across a full transaction lifecycle from initial set-up, managing ongoing cash flow requirements, monitoring performance triggers and reconciliation with our loan reporting systems

• As a (Senior) Data Analyst in the TM Team, you will be responsible for scoping and reviewing our loan-by-loan data reports, which are developed by our tech team and are an integral part of our investor reporting and regulatory reporting
• You will also be in charge of portfolio monitoring using our internal reporting systems, the business intelligence software Looker to create dashboards, Excel and/or Python
• We are keen to find someone who will proactively look for ways to improve processes/systems and close any control gaps. At the same time, you will get a high degree of autonomy over your projects
• The successful applicant will work closely with other teams (structuring, legal, treasury, tech) by taking responsibility for providing data insights in relation to our financing portfolios

Requirements

• Work experience: Demonstrated experience in processing, manipulating and presenting data - this would have been obtained in a data-driven role;
• Educational background: This role requires strong numerical ability, hence the ideal candidate would have a 2:1 or better from a top university in business information systems, computer science, information management, mathematics, finance, economics or equivalent;
• Technical skills: Advanced knowledge of Excel and SQL required (in particular, querying databases); experience working with Looker preferable; working knowledge of VBA for automation purposes and Python to support data analysis is a huge plus;
• Other professional skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to keep track of workload and deadlines. We’re always innovating and fast moving, so the ability to learn quickly and embrace change will be part of the recipe for success;
• Drive & motivation: You bring a growth mindset and hands on approach to problem solving. You thrive when given the opportunity explore projects outside of your comfort zone;
• Interpersonal skills: At iwoca, we follow a team oriented approach - helping out other team members and the ability to work across teams and functions as well as excellent communication skills are indispensable;
• Industry knowledge: The right candidate has a keen interest in financial data - any knowledge of SME lending, asset-backed financing and financial markets in general is seen as a bonus for this role;
• Language skills: Fluent English language skills are required
