Job Description

Your mission is to boost engineering productivity, by providing solutions that tackle the complexities of a modern cloud-based SDLC-stack (e.g. infrastructure, monitoring, deployment, maintenance, security, etc). Essentially you will be leading a team of system engineers who enable developers to focus on building great products that run stable & secure at a reasonable cost, and through this have a major impact on our business. You will report directly to the CTO Armin.

Our System Engineering Team is at the center of IT. We are passionate about automation and infrastructure-as-code. We are looking for a strong manager with an agile mindset to lead our great team – is it maybe you?

You build it - you run it and a DevOps mindset are the foundation of our work. System Engineering builds and runs all the common infrastructure, which is used by 15+ product engineering teams to build and run their products.

As the Head of System Engineering, you will:

• Inspire, lead and grow a team of 6 experienced DevOps Engineers
• Build a strong DevOps culture company-wide
• Implement customer centricity as a guiding principle
• Be the Product Owner for the common infrastructure and represent your team in the product management organisation 
• Create, align and execute our operations and security strategy
• Work closely with development teams to provide them the best solutions to effectively build and operate products
• Drive and govern standards for compliant operations, security and systems engineering
• Provide transparency on cost and major operational KPIs
• Collaborate closely with internal IT

• AWS (from plain EC2 to Data Pipelines and Lambda)
• HashiCorp toolstack (Terraform, Packer)
• Docker & Kubernetes
• Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana
• Elasticsearch/Kibana
• Go, Ruby, Groovy, Python, Java for the Backend
• Slack (integrating a lot of our tools with it, see ChatOPS)
• VictorOps
• Jenkins
• Spinnaker

Qualifications

What you should bring (ideally): 

• You are a strong agile leader with 3+ years of experience leading teams of Engineers
• You have proven expertise in architecting, building, maintaining and securing high performing cloud infrastructure
• You share our passion for having everything in code and automated and embrace an engineering culture
• You have a product mindset and work closely with customers to understand their needs and transform them into solutions that fit business needs
• You have strong communication skills and are able to effectively communicate your thoughts and concepts to both engineers and managers (fluent in English, verbally and written)
• You have good negotiation and relationship management skills and use that in your daily interactions with stakeholders
• You are a cool person - that goes without saying!
