The North American Finance team is seeking a Technical Accountant to assist in the determination and documentation of the accounting for complex and non-routine transactions.  You will also help facilitate the implementation of new accounting standards, help manage the routine accounting close and engage with external auditors, work with our outside tax advisers to facilitate ongoing tax compliance and analysis, and assist with other accounting projects as needed.

In this role you’ll be responsible for understanding and analyzing significant business transactions and operations, which are expected to include capital markets transactions such as loan securitizations. Your transaction work will entail significant interaction with key business partners including Capital Markets and Risk. You will be an integral member of the North America Finance team and will work closely with senior members of Group Finance in London (particularly the global heads of financial reporting and tax).  You will also assist with routine accounting operations activities, including processing journal entries, reviewing general ledger account reconciliations, and otherwise assisting with monthly and annual accounting close processes; provide information to our external auditors, and provide mentorship and training to more junior accounting staff. .

Bird’s-eye view of the role:

  • Working with U.S. finance management, business managers and Group finance, analyze and document accounting conclusions under IFRS for new and unusual transactions
  • Lead implementation of new accounting standards and policies
  • Assist with other accounting projects as needed, including audit assistance, drafting financial statements and footnotes, ongoing accounting assistance, etc.
  • Be the primary liaison with outside tax advisors, assisting them with gathering information and preparing tax filings.

Our ideal teammate has:

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent discipline  
  • 3 to 5 years of technical accounting, auditing and/or financial reporting experience
  • CPA required, Big Four experience a plus.
  • In depth understanding of GAAP, including financial instruments accounting; IFRS knowledge a plus.
  • Familiarity with tax compliance filings and requirements
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills  
  • Unquestioned integrity, strong attention to detail, organizational and project management skills; ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Good working knowledge of Office tools, including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Interest in and understanding of financial technology and online lending
  • Enthusiasm for a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented start-up environment
