About the Legal Team
The Legal team empowers Houzz’s growth while protecting the company from liability. We work with every team at Houzz, across all of our offices, and provide them with legal advice and education.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will hit the ground running. You have at least 4 years of experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating all sorts of commercial agreements. You’re organized, able to provide sound advice quickly and have a mastery of the legal issues involved in commercial agreements, especially at a technology start-up. You’re adept at spotting risks, understanding when the risks matter, limiting liability and striking a great deal. You can be tough when needed, but work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide practical guidance to our colleagues that takes legal and business considerations into account
  • Review, draft and negotiate various types of agreements with third parties in U.S. and international jurisdictions, including SaaS agreements, vendor agreements, service agreements, marketing agreements and terms of service.
  • Identify and mitigate contractual risks and liabilities
  • Support and maintain scalable contract management systems
  • Help create, improve and manage internal processes, best practices and templates for the Legal team
  • Consult with, instruct and supervise outside counsel as needed
  • Stay up to date with relevant legal developments.
  • About You
  • You have a JD and are admitted to a state bar
  • You have at least 4 years of experience in U.S. and international transactional work, handling technology, operational and commercial agreements
  • Law firm and in-house experience required
  • You are an effective communicator -- verbally and in writing. That means you can speak and write in plain English, not only legalese
  • You pay attention to detail and have strong organizational skills.
  • You have excellent legal and analytical skills, as well as soft skills such as negotiation and presentation skills.
  • You have strong research and writing skills.
  • You have the ability to multitask and manage your time well.
  • You are business focused and risk aware
