Onfido builds trust in an online world by helping businesses digitally verify people’s identities.

Using machine learning technology, Onfido validates a user’s identity document and compares it with their facial biometrics. The identity can then be cross-referenced against international credit and watchlist databases.

Founded by three entrepreneurs from Oxford University, Onfido has received over $30m in funding from investors including Salesforce Ventures and Idinvest Partners. We carry out checks in 195 countries for global customers including JustGiving, BlaBlaCar and Couchsurfing.

THE ROLE

As Head of Privacy, you will create and drive key data protection initiatives across Onfido’s business in the UK and abroad. You love data protection so much that your enthusiasm is infectious! You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including the engineering, marketing, compliance, legal, HR and information security teams, setting clear accountabilities and policies for data protection. You will promote and further develop a strong culture of handling and managing personal data sensitively and effectively.

Reporting to our General Counsel, you will be:

• Thinking big about the future of digital identity
• Leading a data protection compliance project
• Working collaboratively with key stakeholders across the business including marketing, people/HR, information security and product development teams as well as keeping the Onfido board updated on relevant matters
• Ongoing monitoring of privacy regulation and Onfido’s compliance with it
• Advising the product development team on all aspects of privacy compliance
• Setting up effective processes and procedures
• Creating and delivering training programmes
• Participating in public policy projects

Requirements

• Solid experience advising in relation to data protection matters
• Experience of leading on a range of privacy projects and issues
• In-house experience
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• In-depth data governance experience
• CIPP/E or equivalent

Nice to haves

• Experience working with or in a technology start-up, preferably with an international dimension
• Familiarity with data protection regime of at least one non-UK territory
• CIPM and/or CIPP/US
