Data Quality Lead

We’re looking for a Data Quality Lead to join the Product Data Stewardship team in London (or in Tallinn).

Data Quality Assurance is fundamental to the success of TransferWise mission and ensures that across our dozens of product teams and hundreds of microservices, we have a single source of truth of product data that is complete, consistent and compliant.

The vision for this team is to ensure that product data in a single consolidated source is:

• Accurate (and obviously there are ongoing inefficiencies which team needs to catch, classify and report to downstream consumers);
• Timely (in this scope we are putting on the side question of technical efficiency of entire architecture and ensuring that product operational processes are efficient enough to bring “eventually right” down to “agreed SLA right”)
• Externally compliant (in our product we iterate fast and trying a lot - this boosts our growth on the market. So we need to ensure that whatever happens in the product - we can account and report in a way which is compliant with the rules of the jurisdictions where we operate)

These are 3 essential pillars we are working on in the scope of this team. Keywords for this team are:

• Data, data and again data (assuming code quality, testing is happening in other tracks)
• Operations and operational processes (we are up 24/7 and operate worldwide, so data is coming, decisions are made literally 24/7)
• Procedures and external compliance (so words like audit, standards, evidence, assurance, regulators should be native and daily used for this team members)

Your mission:

• Lead a team of data quality analysts as part of our larger Product Data Stewardship team.
• Own the quality assurance of our product data from building up the team, processes, controls to collaboration with other teams and external parties.
• Work with teams across the company to identify and build controls - based on requirements from Finance controllers, audit committee, internal audit, board etc.
• Run the data quality assurance operations across teams - you will be setting up operational processes and responsibilities, drive monitoring of how they are executed. You  finding efficient ways of delegating controls and responsibilities to other TransferWise product engineering and operational teams
• Be the face of product data quality in front of Finance Accounting, Finance Product, Finance Controllers, Internal Audit, Audit committee, Customer Compliance and other TransferWise teams consuming product data

A bit about you:

• Experience designing and implementing process and data controls, data quality assurance tools and processes.
• Experience leading a team - you will lead a team, part of it remotely, ensuring the team is engaged, achieving their personal development goals and hitting the required timelines.
• Self-sufficient with data analytics
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience working cross-team and managing relationships with product teams, functions like accounting and tax, internal and external auditors and regulators
• Analytical thinking / problem solving
• Ready to travel and spend time in Tallinn, Estonia

You might find it challenging in this role, if you:

• only focus on software QA. Software QA is a huge job on its own and our engineering teams solve this separately from data quality assurance and controls
• only focus on corporate policies and procedures and are not hands on with data and tooling yourself. While policies and processes are a part of the job, being hands on, being a builder is what will make you successful.
