Automobili Lamborghini

Sant'Agata Bolognese

Foundation Date

The history of ‘Lamborghini Automobili’ officially starts in 1963. But, actually, it goes much  further back than this because its roots are with Ferruccio Lamborghini. An astute,  impetuous and strong-willed Taurus born in 1916, he was the man behind the foundation of the company and all of the early phases of its extraordinary history.

Ferruccio was already a very wealthy man by the time he decided to build a factory to make  luxury sports cars. In the aftermath of World War II, he set up a tractor factory, which he  launched with energy and determination, creating a major benchmark for the industry. Other  businesses followed suit, helping him to make his fortune at the perfect time, before his  fiftieth birthday. Ferruccio Lamborghini was a powerful and successful man by the early  sixties who knew exactly what he wanted. Despite this, many people thought he was mad  when he said he was going to build the best super sports car ever. Constructing such a car was considered an unexplainable extravagance, a hazardous leap in the dark, and something that would squander his fortune without ever turning a profit.

He started working on his project in late 1962 and had already founded ‘Automobili Ferruccio  Lamborghini’ by May 1963, buying a large plot of land in Sant’Agata Bolognese, about 25 kilometres from Bologna, where he built a large and ultramodern factory.

Today, Automobili Lamborghini is an international, modern company operating at global level, that still shares Ferruccio’s vision: to make the ultimate super sports car.
