At GetYourGuide (GYG), we're looking for a passionate Data Scientist to join our Activity Ranking Team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our product and our customers' experiences. You'll work with a vast and diverse set of structured and unstructured data, powering various data products such as search, recommendations, SEM, and incentives. Our team has touchpoints across the business, developing end-to-end solutions that directly contribute to creating memorable travel experiences for people around the world.

Team Mission

The Activity Ranking Team is responsible for the ranking algorithms used for GYG's products. Our primary goal is to present customers with the most relevant products in their specific context while ensuring broad visibility across our extensive inventory. We've developed advanced systems that rank products individually for each customer in real-time. Our work influences nearly every booking on the platform. As part of our collaborative team, you'll work closely with other Data Scientists and MLOps Engineers to continuously enhance the relevance of displayed products.

What You Will Do:

Develop data products that delight our customers and contribute to company success
Take ownership of projects from initial business problem to production code, including:

Analyzing large datasets to derive meaningful insights
Developing and maintaining robust data pipelines
Monitoring and optimizing data products post-deployment

Contribute to our machine learning infrastructure and help establish best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, bringing your unique perspective to solve complex problems
Support team growth through continuous improvements and participation in recruiting efforts

What You Bring

Ideal candidates will have experience in most of the following areas:

Machine Learning Familiarity with regressors, classifiers, and recommender systems. Understanding of ML techniques and their applications. Experience deploying ML models in production is a plus.
Software Engineering Proficiency in Python. Familiarity with distributed machine learning and computing frameworks (e.g., Spark) is beneficial.
Analytics Ability to transform data into actionable insights. Experience with hypothesis testing and proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., pandas, R) and SQL.
Business Acumen Applied experience in a business environment, demonstrating result-driven work.
Academic Background An advanced degree in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience.
Communication Strong skills in explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
